José Garcia, General Manager/Proprietor · Hubbard Avenue Diner

José Garcia is the General Manager of the Hubbard Avenue Diner and Bakery, in Middleton, WI, which is well known for serving diner classics like apple pie and meatloaf and mashed potatoes, as well as innovative sandwiches, salads and entrees in an exceptional, classic diner atmosphere. Born in the Andes, José comes from the mountain town of Mérida, Venezuela, a city about the size of Madison with a university slightly larger than UW Madison. Growing up in the mountains, he cultivated a deep appreciation for the outdoors. Before coming to the states in 1998, José worked a variety of jobs; everything from hotel reception, to pizzaiolo, to providing security on the university campus. José's first job in the United States was at the Ovens of Brittany in Madison. Restaurant work quickly became his passion, as his general manager at the Ovens instilled in him a love for the industry. In the many years José has worked for Food Fight Restaurant Group, he has attended a great variety of small business courses through the UW Madison Small Business Development Center. He is also a native Spanish speaker, which he finds very helpful in the restaurant industry. For José, it has been the people he has been fortunate enough to meet in the industry that he has learned the most from. "Most of them are my mentors in many ways and have seen me through highs and lows; supporting me and my family 100% of the way. How can I not love that? My beautiful wife has always been my motivation, and I have met very incredible people through my career in this industry." José enjoys mountain biking, kayaking and hiking through the Wisconsin State Parks. His children, Piper and Ziggy, have grown to love it with him.
